Windows and Locked Doors

I'm starting to realize how fast kids learn. It is so incredible to watch my little boy suddenly figure out how things work. At the young age of a year and a half, my son is just so full of curiosity and already so much intelligence! I know all kids are like this, but you don't realize how much they are learning until you see them every day.

My husband and I have had to take extra measures to keep our son safe. We've added extra locks on our front door, so he won't leave on his own. We've had to move where we keep our knives. It's crazy how much he has absorbed just from watching his parents live.

On top of learning quickly, our little boy has also gotten taller. It's like he is growing up or something. He is now able to reach the latch to our sliding door to our backyard. He loves to play with it. He often moves his toy bin or a chair over so he can easily flip the latch up and down, over and over again.

He can still flip the switch without the help of a chair...We discovered this the hard way...Twice.

The first time it happened my husband Ricky went outside to put gas in the lawnmower. I joined him but shut the door behind me leaving our boy at the door. I was just out for a moment putting something away, our son stayed at the door the entire time. Ricky and I went to go back inside together.

Our son had flipped the latch. We were locked outside.

We tried to coax our son into unlocking the door but he didn't understand. He started to get distressed too. He kept signing "all done." Luckily our bedroom window was open and Ricky was able to climb through it.

The second time Ricky and I had gone out to the grill, we left our boy inside...stupid, and we got locked out again. It was my turn to jump through the window.

I hope we have finally learned our lesson. You would think after the first time we would have gotten it, maybe this time...
