Work made into Fun

Living in Rexburg means tons of snow in the winter. And as first-time homeowners, my husband and I are realizing how much snow we really get. Shoveling is hard work and we will soon invest in a snowblower. Well, today we needed to shovel some snow off the roof (yes, we do that in Rexburg because of the risk it is to our gutters). Well, today was the day!

Ice formed on the roof- Time to shovel

My husband and I marched out there while our son was taking a nap and we began shoveling and raking snow off the roof. It is tough work- Pain in the shoulders and neck from craning your neck up to see where you're shoveling. Your back hurts because you are out of shape and the New Year's resolutions have already been abandoned. And, you keep sinking deeper and deeper into the snow until the piles are up to your knees.

Snow piles up to your knees, hips in some places.

My dear husband is a child at heart and he started throwing snow at me! Being the revengeful wife that I am, I threw snow right on back! It was such a beautiful day. The temperature was in the high 30s (that's high after weeks of low 20s or the teens). The sun was shining and we were soaking each other with partially melted snow.

Husband and nature's weapon

We did end up finishing the roof but we enjoyed it so much more. As our boy grows older I hope that we can teach him that we can find joy in working hard and see that there can be fun while we do those tasks, especially when you work with others.
